Just looking for someone to commiserate with--summer is absolutely the worst season of the year here in Michigan. The bugs are terrible, and lately the summer lasts until October. It's better in the upper peninsula, but I live down near Detroit, and it bites. However, due to the duration, it may not be a bad place to ride motorcycles.
